SCML began by providing loans for those on a low income in the year 2000. We have since lent over £2.5 million and all money paid back is recycled out as new lending. This means the money you repay is kept within your community.
We began with four staff members and now have nine and we are answerable to a Board Of Directors (see Board and Credit Committee page for more details).
We are a Community Development Finance Institute (CDFI) – an ethical lender that cares about its customers.
We were set up with support and funding from Portsmouth Housing Association, Lloyds TSB and the Governments Single Regeneration Budget. We are now funded by various private and public organisations and grant making trusts.
